    Hi folks!

A while back I started a topic with the same name in which I posted a Minecraft screenshot everyday to tell a fanfic story about @MichelDeStar and myself. However, this proved to be too much work.

I will try again, but this time just as a story.

For this story, I have myself and Michel als protagonists. The other roles are:

    - Luna, taken by the ever so lovely Mythicalwolff
    - The Nightmare Knight, taken by miner
    - Andrew, taken by AndreFilipe

The story will be written by me.

I hope this time the story will succeed!

    Cheers,

    LuukDMM

    Me, Michel and I

    Chapter One

A gush of wind woke me up. I was lying on soft, fertile soil, covered in grass and the occasional poppy. It felt tranquil, idyllic almost. Except for a faint noise...

I rose to my feet. The day was still young and the sun had just come up. I tried to remember how I ended up here, but I found I was unable to recall anything. The noise had started to trouble me. I could feel it resonate in the back of my head. I presumed taking a walk would ease my senses.

I found a little pool of water and took the time to study myself. I was not unhappy. After I had shook off some dirt, my purple coat looked ever so smart, my bow tie was straight and fierce, and my sunglasses shimmered dauntlessly in the sunlight, just below my signature quiff. I looked sharp and ready to rock the world.

Time seemed to go fast. It was high noon already. I looked around and spotted some trees. I had been hoping for a forest to find shelter for the night, but this was just a patch of oak trees. I walked up to a small one. As the undeterminable noise was vibrating in my ears, I prepared my fists.

With a hit that wasn't nearly as painful as I had expected it to be, I punched a block of oak wood loose from the tree. It fell to the ground and miniaturized as I picked it up.

A siren started to blare around me. It petrified me, and the faint noise I had heard grew into a metallic voice, repeatedly shouting "Achievement get: Getting Wood". After a short while, the siren stopped and the voice faded. It did not return to its original faintness, however. I could now hear it very clearly. A conversation was being held. Several metallic voices spoke to eachother in different languages.
    "Alguem br?"
    "Who sells sponge?"
    "How to claim land?"
I tried to ignore it. It was getting late and I needed shelter. I resumed punching the tree. It was then that I heard a footstep behind me.

I turned around. A man had appeared right behind me. It was a peculiar person. He wore turquoise jeans and a dark blue jumper with a big S superimposed on the chest. He had a headset on his ears, including a mouthpiece on his left cheek, and just above his piercing green eyes, on his brown hair, shone a golden crown.

Bright as starlight it was, embedded with rubies and emeralds. This person was a king, and I had been trespassing on his domain! I kneeled before this mighty sovereign.
"I pledge my allegiance to you, your majesty. I hereby ask for your pardon for trespassing on your lands and accept you as my Lord, my Captain, my King."

The green eyes twinkled. The monarch raised his eyebrows and started to laugh.
"Good man, your allegiance is your own. Do not fear my judgement, nor my wrath. Welcome to my realm!"
He extended his hand and helped me get up.
"I am Michel I of the Star dynasty, high king and sovereign of the Holy Hollandcraft Kingdom. And you would be..."
"Luuk", I said. "Luuk of the house of DMM. My family is one of merchants and entrepeneurs. Nothing noble or royal."
"Yet your appearance would suggest otherwise, master Luuk", Michel I said. "Your attire looks kingly!". I blushed. One should not embarrass a king by dressing better than him.
He turned towards the tree I had been punching.
"I see you have only just arrived here. Still punching trees, are we?"
    "So I am, your highness."
"It is getting dark. We should not delay, or we may fall prey to the creatures of the night..."
As he spoke, a horrendous scream rose from somewhere unseen. I shivered.
"I invite you to spend the night at my palace", the king said. "It's safe there, and you can get acquainted with the lay of the land in my realm."
"I... I'm not sure what to say, sire... What a tremendous honour!"
    "Don't mention it. Come on!"

Riches beyond measure filled the great halls of Michel I's palace. Silver fountains and carven stone decorated the corridors. As I walked through the king's castle, gasping and gazing in utter astonishment, I encountered his majesty's entourage. Noblemen and paladins, all with a distinct title. Vosje2 of Krisshire, Bobotje the Elder, D of Kirk. These were among the king's Helpers.
Caeruleus Virilis, Martijn the Pure. These were among the king's Moderators. As I entered the throne room, my eyes fell upon a figure next to the throne. This had to be Michel I's most trusted courtesan.

He wore a red velvet jacket, with a big yellow B on his chest. The king spoke for the first time since we entered the palace.
"This is Lord Bobobaal IV of the great Neih duchy. He is my Admin, counselor and friend."
    I bowed before the duke.
    "Greetings, my Lord."
"Bobobaal, this is Luuk of the house of DMM. He is a merchant who has newly arrived in my kingdom. He will stay here tonight. Please show him around", the king spoke.
The silent nobleman nodded his head and showed me the way.

After an even more extensive tour of the magnificent castle and a very satisfying meal, Bobobaal IV showed me the guests' quarters, in which I found a bathroom, a wardrobe and a bed. The duke spoke for the first time.
"May you rest well. The king will see you again in the morning."
After I had washed myself, I stepped into the bed and before long I was sound asleep.

    Chapter Two

The tolling of a bell woke me up. It was still dark and the candle on my nightstand was still burning. I couldn't have been asleep for more than four hours. There was shouting everywhere in the castle, and I heard the same screams as earlier that day, when I first encountered Michel. I remembered that the castle was standing at the edge of a deep, dark forest. Could there have been monsters lurking in the dim woods?

Suddenly, the door opened and a nobleman stormed in. Judging by his clothes, it was a Helper, but not one I had seen during my tour of the palace.
"You need to get out of here, sir. King's orders. The castle is under attack. Hordes of zombies are storming the gates. There is a saferoom deep below the surface. Sir Black will take you there."
Another man entered my room. He greeted me.
"BlackOps050. My pleasure. I can take it from here, Lord Rampage!"
The Helper nodded and made his way to the walls. Sir Black handed me my clothes.
"Y'need to hurry, master Luuk! It's a long way down to the saferoom!"
I got dressed as fast as I could and followed the cavalier into the vaults underneath the palace.

Diamonds, gold, lapis lazuli. Earth's riches abounded in the caves and labyrinths of Michel's ancient vaults. Sir Black knew the path exactly. Down and down we went.
    "The saferoom is close now."
"What exactly is the saferoom for?", I finally asked.
"The saferoom is a fortified chamber, designed to protect some of the king's dearest treasures and friends, and guests of the palace who are unable to fight, such as yourself."
"But I am able to fight!"
"Have you ever wielded a sword, sir?"
    "I..."
    "Shot with a bow?"
"I have neither...", I said. "Just a merchant."
"Hence you are to be protected, my dear fellow."
    I was silent.

It was getting warmer and damper as we finally saw the entrance to the saferoom.
    "At last!", Sir Black exclaimed.
We entered the saferoom. I looked around. I saw paintings, silver chalices, sculptures, but no other persons.
"I am the only one that is deemed unable to fight?", I asked indignantly.
    "So it seems."
As the cavalier started closing the enforced steel door, I heard a whizzing sound and then a scream.

Sir Black had been hit by an arrow. It had been shot through the crack of the not yet fully closed door.
"A skeleton!", the wounded man yelled. He fell to his knees. The arrow had struck him in the chest. He would not make it.
"You... will... be... safe!", he uttered, and tried to close the door. Another arrow hit him in the arm. I gasped. He let go of the door and collapsed, clasping his arm in agony.
"Forgive me, master Luuk. Forgive me."
With those words, Sir Black exhaled his last breath and died. In the sudden, thundering silence, I could hear bony footsteps coming ever closer.

I had to act fast. As the skeleton approached the door, I grabbed the fallen cavalier's sword and hid just behind the door, with my back against the wall.
The sound of bone on steel could be heard as the undead monster slid open the door. Then I saw the first glimpse of it. A skeletal hand reached through the now very big crack between the door and the wall. It was completely white, not the rotten brown colour you usually see on old bones. This was not an ordinary person who had risen from the grave. This was a force of evil. I ignored my fear and did what I had to do.

With a firm swing, I cut off the monster's hand and wrist. It screeched. I jumped in front of the crack and came face to face with the creature. It had no eyebrows or facial features, as is usual with skeletons, but it looked malicious nonetheless.
It screeched again and raised its bow, but found it was unable to tension it because of the loss of its hand. While it was discovering this, I leaped forward and tried to strike the creature with Sir Black's sword. However, although now impaired, the monster was still incredibly strong. With its cut off arm, it stopped me in my tracks and threw me back into the saferoom, against the wall. With an angry snarl, the skeleton dropped its now useless bow and reached for its quiver. With its hand, it took an arrow from the quiver and held it as if it were a dagger. It grimaced and charged me. I raised my sword and braced myself.

I was able to block the skeleton's attack, but I was knocked off my feet by the sheer momentum of its charge. As I lay on the threshold of the saferoom, the monster came at me again. I rolled over, but couldn't avoid being stabbed in the side. I cried out in pain, but I had to get up. I conjured the strength to stand up and before the skeleton could stab again, I had evaded it. I hit the creature in the back with the hilt of my sword, and as it stumbled I chopped its head off. The head shrieked as it fell, a terrible noise. Then it hit the ground and shattered into a thousand pieces. The body collapsed as well. This fight I had won, but I could not stay here. If there were more skeletons nearby, I would not survive, and even if I would close the door of the saferoom, I'd still require medical assistance. I exited the saferoom and closed the door behind me, assuring that no monster would defile Sir Black's body. I would tell the royal guard to collect his body for burial once this was all over. I clenched my bleeding flank and started ascending the stairs that led up to the palace.

    Chapter Three

I had gotten lost. The caves in which the saferoom was situated were a maze. It was easy to get back to the saferoom, I just had to follow the trail of blood from the stab wound. Getting back up, however, was much more difficult. I wandered for hours, and the blood loss started to make me feel light-headed and dizzy. From the caves around me came unsettling noises, possibly more monsters, but no creature showed itself. Then I heard a voice.
"Master Luuk! Master Luuk! Are you there?" It came from the direction of the saferoom. I followed the blood and reached the now opened steel door. In front of it were two men. One of them had attire similar to that of Bobobaal IV earlier. He had to be an Admin.
"Oh, thank Notch!", he spoke. "We saw Sir Black's body and started to think the worst for you." His eyes fell upon my wound. "You need treatment. Come quickly. Can you walk?" I nodded, but then groaned in pain. "No, you can't", the Admin spoke. "Carry him", he said to the other man. He lifted me and followed the Admin who showed the correct path I had been missing all those hours. "The siege is not over yet, but one of our spies discovered that the enemy had dug into the ground and breached the cave system underneath the palace. The skeleton that killed Sir Black was a scout. As soon as the king found out about this breach, he ordered that the saferoom be reinforced by more men. We hurried down and found the cavalier dead behind the closed door. I assumed you closed it?" I nodded. "Good man", he said. "These horrid creatures sometimes feast on enemy flesh."
The air was getting fresher and cooler as we approached the surface.
"How may I call you, my Lord?", I asked the nobleman.
"I am Bastiel, Last of the Yoda clan, keeper of the flame of xD", he said. "Duke of Ajax and one of the king's Admins."
"Such titles you hold, my Lord!", I spoke in awe.
He smiled. "They are only titles. A man's true worth is proven in the face of death. And you, master Luuk, have proven to be brave and cunning. The king must know about your qualities." I blushed. "Thank you, my Lord." We had reached the final stairwell that led into the palace. As we left the vaults, the turmoil of the battle outside became audible again.

As we entered the throne room, the king worriedly rushed towards us. "My dear guest! I am truly sorry for what happened to you! When I heard that you had been wounded and my cavalier had been killed, I came here at once."
"You needn't have come, sire. Your men out there on the walls require your command", I said.
"I left the command in Lord Bobobaal's capable hands. I must have a word with you, master Luuk."
"As you wish, sire. However, I am in dire need of medical assistance." My head felt light. The king was startled. "By Jeb! Of course. Lord Bastiel, call the court physician at once!" I saw white spots before my eyes. I had lost a lot of blood. I could hear Lord Bastiel running off. Then nothing.

The first I heard when I came to was the clashing of swords in the distance. Faint at first, but it grew ever louder as my senses settled. I was in the guest's room again. I looked down. Below my white patient's gown I could see bandages. The stab wound had been sealed off. I looked up. By my bed sat the king. I startled and tried to get to my feet. "Your majesty!", I exclaimed. The king gestured me to keep calm. "You must rest. No need for formalities now. I speak to you as your friend, not as your master." I lied down again. "How long have I been unconscious?" "37 hours. Our physician sealed your wound and injected salted water in your blood stream." I nodded. "To stimulate blood production", I said. The king nodded, too. "When last I saw you, my liege, you said you wanted to have a word with me?" "Yes, master Luuk. As you may have heard already, we are still at war. We have had a zombie attack before, many times even, but never as strong and persistent as this one. I deemed the palace unsafe for you, so I ordered you be kept safe in our saferoom. However, since the enemy has broken into our cave system, it's no longer safe for you to stay there. The saferoom is not unbreachable. It can't be taken while there are men to defend it, but you are in no condition to take up arms." I looked down and nodded in silence. "We have to guard both the walls and the vaults now. If the tunnels are invaded, we face a war on two fronts. I want you to go." I looked at Michel in surprise. "To go? Where?" "Back to where we first met. You can live there in peace, just stay inside at night." I thought about the plains where I had punched that tree. I would have to build a life there. The king got on his knees and grabbed something from underneath the bed. It was a small, wooden chest. He opened it. Inside was a small, ivory horn, decorated with silver edges. "Take this with you when you go", the king said. "Blow it when you need me. I will be there for you. Now you must rest. Tomorrow, a chariot will take you back to the tree. You should build a home there." "But sire, the zombies?" "The saferoom is not the only thing hidden in our vaults. There is a secret exit, guarded at all times. You can leave through there with an escort of some of my finest men. Rest now." The king got up and left. I had some twelve hours to go. It felt wrong to leave the castle in such times of trouble. I tried to get up. I felt weak, but when I put my feet on the floor, I felt some strength coming back. I needed fresh air. My own clothes were put on a chair near the wall. I took off the gown, inspected the bandages and reached for my shirt. My trousers. Suspenders. Waistcoat. Coat. Bow tie. All set. No, wait. Sunglasses! I fixed my quiff and walked out of the room, slowly but steadily.

    Chapter Four

As I wandered through the palace, I could hear the battle outside raging on. How was I going to get fresh air with arrows whizzing about? I found a stairway that led up and up and up. I ascended carefully and entered the base of a tower, with a spiral staircase leading up even further. I managed to climb that one, too. There was a wooden door with metal hinges. I opened it. Suddenly, the sound of war struck my face, along with a fresh, chilling wind. I inhaled. As the air filled my lungs, I felt reinvigorated. I could feel the wound, but I could now feel everything else as well. I saw the king, who had donned his armor again, leading his men into battle far below. I saw the enemy. Terrible creatures, who looked like they had been dead for years. Zombies armed with swords, and of course the skeletons, armed with bows. I wanted to join the king in battle. I wanted to fight for what was dear to me. But I couldn't. As I walked around the top of the tower to get a clear view of everything, I felt something sharp underneath my feet. There, amidst some gunpowder, sand and some tools, lay two diamonds.

I searched my pockets. There they were, the two logs of wood I had punched from the tree. Before I met Michel. Before war and death, loss and sorrow. I fashioned the logs into planks and created a crafting table. Out of the remaining planks, I fashioned sticks. I picked up the diamonds and inserted them in the crafting table slots, one below the other. Below the diamonds, I placed one stick. The crafting table started to hiss and rattle and chime. There was a flash and some smoke and there it lay. A diamond sword. My diamond sword. Well, not mine, since I basically nicked those two diamonds, but still. I picked it up and tried to reflect the sunlight with it. There was no sunlight. For the first time since I went outside, I looked up to the sky. Dark stormclouds had obscured the sun. I looked to the horizon. There shone the sun. All around the palace it was sunny. Only here prevailed the dark. This was not the weather of the world. This was a device of evil to allow the zombies and skeletons to fight, instead of burn. It was then that I had an idea.

Where I picked up the diamonds lay gunpowder and sand. I picked it up and brought it to the crafting table. After the hissing and rattling and chiming and flashing and smoking, I found two blocks of TNT laying on the table. I picked them up. Now I had to look for a way to fire it up into the clouds. I ran down to the fountain in the palace courtyard and filled a bucket with the water. I entered the kitchen to nick a flint and steel from the fireplace. I flooded the top of the tower with the water and placed one TNT in the water and another on top of it. I primed both and ran for my life.

I was just able to reach the bottom of the tower when the first block of TNT exploded with an unnotchly bang. I ran onto the walls and looked up. The other block of TNT was soaring to the clouds, being fired by the first one. Its ascent then slowed. It hang there for a moment, between rising and falling, completely still but ever flickering white. Then it popped.

With an explosion that seemed even louder than the first one, the TNT exploded and tore a hole in the clouds. I ran up the spiral staircase for the third time, drained the intact top of the water and inspected the hole. It was not big, but through it, the sun valiantly pierced the dark. I drew my sword.

Ah, that sword. Its diamond blade shone like a crystalline ocean on fire. It shimmered bravely and fiercely, and with it, I could now finally reflect the sunlight. And so I did.

Reflecting beam after beam, I spinned round and round, raining down the power of the sun. I fired beams of hope at the undead army. Zombies and skeletons burned alike. How they burned. It started to look like a bonfire around the castle. The men looked up in astonishment. They cheered when they saw me use the light to vanquish the darkness. How symbolic. I saw the king bow in respect. Then something happened.

There was a screech. Not a screech from below. It seemed to be coming from everywhere and going everywhere. I covered my ears. Then a voice. I could hear the shrill whisper of an evil force, carried by the now even more chilling wind. "Gûret, gûret. Kèrt gûret. Ezéd nam sî kjîlraaveg." It was a haunting sound. The language hurt my ears. All of a sudden, all the enemies that weren't already burning retreated. They all ran. They entered the forest and were soon hidden by the dark that prevailed there. We heard their shrieks for a few minutes more. Then, silence. The clouds perished and the castle once more bathed in sunlight.

The king had called me to his library. When I entered, he was reading an ancient scroll. Next to him lay books that seemed just as ancient. He looked up. "Ah, my dear friend! How tremendously clever and brave that was! Please kneel!" I kneeled and the king drew his sword. He touched my shoulders and then my head. "I, king Michel I, hereby knight thee, Sir Luuk of DMM, as esquire of the Hollandcraft kingdom." I had been knighted! What an honour! "I am most grateful, my liege." "Now, get up. We have matters to discuss." "What matters, sire?" He showed me the scroll. "What do you know..." He was silent for too long. "...of the Nightmare Knight?" I looked at him in surprise. "The Nightmare Knight, sire? That's just a story my mother used to tell me to frighten me as a child." "Not quite", Michel said. "The Nightmare Knight is a legend, woven throughout history. He sleeps for centuries, having nightmares of his own, and then he rises from his sleep, bringing bad dreams to everyone else. When he is awake, he brings death and destruction at the hands of his undead hordes, and his voice, his terrible voice, hurts the ears of those who are unfortunate enough to hear it."
I looked at the king in silence. "It seems, Sir Luuk...", he breathed in and out a few times, very loudly. "...that the Nightmare Knight has awoken again."

    To be continued...
